How do you believe someones identity formation affects

Problem

As stated in the article for this week, adolescence is considered a critical period for identity development and formation. For this week's discussion board, I would like you to speculate on two things. First, is one's identity truly malleable? In other words, do I as an adolescent get to actively choose my own identity or is identity something that just happens to a person passively as if it were fate or nested in our genes? Second, how do you believe someone's identity formation affects their behavior in school, social setting, or leisure activities?
