Problem:
Diet is a critical area of evaluating your wellness. This assignment requires tracking everything you eat and drink for 2 normal days. In order for this information to be useful, you need to select days that are representative of your normal eating patterns. The instructions for the assignment are found below.
Go to the Diet Analysis site found on MyLab (find the link by opening the homepage.) Create a profile and track everything you eat and drink for 2 average days. Do not select days when you are ill or when you are celebrating (you only get that birthday cake once a year.) Make certain you are including all your beverages and be careful to note your quantities. Research shows we are all bad at estimating quantity after the fact--some of us go too high, some of us too low. I suggest you keep a log in your phone and then enter it at the end of the day. You could even snap pictures and then log it later.
Once you have entered all your food, select the Reports tab. Select only the reports I have noted with a *. After selecting each individual report you will need to download it into PDF. Save each report into a file/folder and submit that file in Module 8. You will need to use your reports in Module 9, when you complete the Diet Review.
Don't try to complete the Review until I have checked your reports--if the info there is not correct, you will not be able to answer the questions accurately.
Here are some of the common errors people make when food tracking.
No beverages. This is the number one error people make. Beverages account for a high percentage of our total calories-leave them out and the picture you get is deceptive. Although many people do walk around somewhat dehydrated (do you wake up with a headache and/or feel a bit nauseous if you are hot?) most of us drink more than we think-very few restaurant drinks are 8 ounces. Don't forget the milk on your cereal. And I am puzzled as to how Miller is staying in business-my Summer A online class is my 3rd in a row in which not one college student drank any alcohol...
Incorrect quantities. Please look at what ½ cup of cereal, rice, ice cream, etc. looks like before you start. In my on campus class, I ask my students 'who fills up the bowl when they eat their Honey Nut Cheerios' and ALL students in every class so far have raised their hands.. I don't ask about ice cream. Most bowls hold 2 cups. And then if you have milk left over, you must add more Cheerios to even it out...
The program will pull up ½ cup of many items because that is what a 'serving' is supposed to be-not what it actually is for most of us.
Forgetting the add-ons. Don't forget the ketchup on your fries, the mayo on your turkey sandwich, the dressing on your salad, the sour cream and cheese on your Chipotle . Add ons matter. Most of them are high in sugar and sodium-that's why we love them.
Counting. Do you really think you only ate ONE chicken wing? ONE rib? ONE M & M?
Selecting a "non typical' day. This is why you were introduced to the assignment in advance of the due date. Don't turn in reports with just one smoothie and Gatorade for 2 days and then tell me you were just too sick to eat. The assignment has a purpose-to allow you to take a clear look at your nutrition. You learn nothing of use about your nutrition from tracking an unusual day. Need Assignment Help?
