Informative and persuasive speeches are likely the two styles of speeches you will encounter. You might present speech for entertainment purposes but informative and persuasive are more likely.
How do you know if your speech was effective? How did you evaluate your presentation? Maybe you saw outcomes from your objectives you presented in your speech come to fruition. I practice my presentations by recording myself or presenting in front of a mirror. It's amazing what nonverbal communication cues are delivered yet we have no idea.
When I present a persuasive presentation, I try to make a connection to my audiences' likes and needs. If something isn't important then the audience will not listen. You want the audience/person to "buy-in" to what you are requesting of them. When you can achieve this then you have done a very good job at persuasive speaking.
