Problem: Conservation efforts can be effective in sustaining ecosystems, but they are not always guaranteed to work. The number one contributor to extinction is habitat loss (American College of Education, 2021). Conservation related to protecting habitat from being destroyed is one way that conservation can be effective. Sometimes the conservation efforts are unsuccessful. A study on the conservation efforts on snail populations in Oceania found that certain conservation efforts were more successful than others. For example, creating exclosures that keep out predators was a successful method. Husbandry systems were also effective in growing the population of snails. However, there was no proof that controlling the population of rodents, a predator, had an effect (Hyman et al., 2024). It is important to conduct studies like this in order to ensure that the most effective conservation efforts are being employed so that there is success in supporting the ecosystem. Based on my current understanding of systems, I think that this ecosystem is lacking decomposers. I think this because of the dead animals that show no decaying at all. Same with the vegetation in the lake. The issue with having no decomposers at all is that the energy from the system is not able to cycle back to the earth. one positive comment and a question.
