CONSUMING PASSIONS: The Good, the Bad and the Obsessed.

Can you determine something good from something bad? In most cases it is quite possible. Can you determine someone obsessed from someone who has their mind set on reaching a particular goal? Once again it is usually quite possible. But can someone who is obsessed determine whether they are doing good or bad, whether their goal has turned into an obsession or whether they are obsessed?

The definition of obsession is the domination of the mind by one idea. In relation to "Guiltrip" and "Bronte beats anorexia" there were two different types of obsession. In Guiltrip, Liam was obsessed with power. He dominated his wife Tina and had an overpowering attitude towards his fellow colleagues. In the case of "Bronte beats anorexia" Bronte's previous experiences with her disease were anything than good. Her mind took over her body and led her to become very sick. Her minds obsession was with putting Bronte down and making her feel bad about her self .Bronte then developed another obsession with not eating because her mind had told her how "she had fat legs, fat hips and a fat bum" in Bronte's case, fat was ugly and she was plumb-ugly fat. As Liam also did, Bronte failed to see that she was endangering her life, hurting herself and hurting her friends and family. In each case the obsessed person had a different perspective of looking at things than what we would usually have. Liam was doing well to himself by not letting Tina have any freedom but for Tina, her life was a living hell. Bronte on the other hand, thought she was doing right for herself by listening to her mind telling her she was fat. She was then abiding by her rules that if she was fat she needed to loose weight, and that she did. At that stage she didn't realise the bad she was doing. But now she has recovered and has learnt that her doings were wrong she understand s how serious her obsession was and is glad she is well again. The story of Guiltrip will be a never ending vicious cycle in the lives of Liam and Tina, because Liam will never realise how his obsession is hurting Tina and his fellow colleagues.
