You are responsible for establishing the company's HR policies in the new country; but you need to get approval from your firm's board of directors on the approach you are recommending.
The question: Your assignment, as a group, is to deliver a presentation in answer t ONE of the following questions:
1. How can we find and recruited talented people in COUNTRY A?
2. What is the best way to manage the performance of staff in COUNTRY A?
3. Should we negotiate with unions in COUNTRY A?
4. What is the best approach to training and developing employees in COUNTRY A?
5 Sh-aiild we offer a flexible working hour scheme to some or all employees in COUNTRY A?
The issues: In your presentation, you should reflect on:
a) The culture of the country
b) What employees normally expect
c) What other employers normally do
d) What national and international laws require employers to do
e) How policies and practices differ from what is done in the UK
Selecting a country to investigate: Each group is free to choose the country they want to research, so long as there is not more than one group per seminar researching a particular country. Some countries will have a lot more written about them than others because of their size (e.g. you can find a lot of info on China or India), level of economic development (e.g. Japan or South Korea) or because English is the first language (e.g. USA, Australia or New Zealand).
