Have you managed projects at work have you managed

Activity: Personal Introduction and Project Scope, Aims and Objectives

This Shared Activity will acquaint you with your classmates and help you to understand their professional and educational backgrounds. You will start by introducing yourself and your context, beginning this module, and you will review the assigned business case scenario and start to develop your definition of the scope, aims and objectives of the project.

In this online learning environment, you will interact with a diverse group of individuals from various organisations and backgrounds. You may meet experienced project managers as well as people who are learning about project management for the first time. Although some of your peers might have experience managing projects in a corporate environment, others could have gained experience managing personal projects, like a home renovation. All experiences managing projects contribute to the body of knowledge shared in your Shared Activities. Considering this diverse background when completing Shared Activities will add to the richness of your educational experience, just as your background contributes to the experience of others.

No matter what your level of project management experience is, you will explore concepts that are similar in all projects. These concepts will help provide a foundation to understand the basics of what project management is and a baseline for you to move forward with the remaining units in this module.

You will also start to share ideas about the Project scenario that you have been allocated.

To prepare for this Shared Activity:

Reflect on your readings from this unit, and note concepts that you are familiar with and concepts that are new to you; focus on the readings that cover the scope, aims and objectives of projects.

Reflect on your experience in managing projects:

Have you managed projects at work?

Have you managed projects in your personal life?

Review the scenario you were assigned by your Faculty Member.

Identify the project scope, and create aims and objectives for the scenario you were assigned

To complete this Shared Activity:

Write a 500-word post:

Introduce yourself to your group. Provide brief information about what you are currently doing professionally, providing information on your experience and knowledge of managing projects, whether personal, professional or both.

Synthesise your thoughts and research on your allocated scenario and post what you conclude to be the scope, aims and objectives of the business case for the Project.

Two Follow-on Posts:

You are required to make two follow-on posts by Day 14

Respond to at least two colleagues' posts and compare the similarities and differences between them.

In your response, include lessons you learned that will help you develop your own project management qualities and your understanding of the business case and its scope.

As you receive feedback from your colleagues, accept it in the spirit that it was given and consider how you might use it to improve your work.

You should aim to engage with and extend the academic discussion in a sensitive and professional way. Aim for at least 2 posts of minimum 200 words each.

On the last day of the unit, synthesise your thoughts and research on your allocated scenario and post what you conclude to be the scope, aims and objectives of the business case for the project.
