Have the children create some sort of art that may have

Phase 1: Discussion/observation/critique of author and works of art (please choose a language arts standard for this phase and write your objective to match this standard).

- Phase 2: Creation of art (please choose an arts standard (related to either visual arts, music or dance and write your objective based on this standard).

- Phase 3: Reflection (you may choose either an arts or a language arts standard and write your objective based on this standard).

(the rationale for asking you to use both language arts as well as creative arts standards is so that you can integrate the arts within education)>

As an example, you might:

Phase 1 - Conduct an artist study with the children. Have the children listen to stories about the artist, engage in critique of some of his work, and ty to imagine what the artist may have been thinking when he/she created his/her art. What was life like at that time when the artist lived?

- Phase 2- Create: Have the children create some sort of art that may have similar qualities the work of that author. Examples include still life, abstract art, representational art (visual); dance, music, etc...

- Reflect: Have the children reflect on their work and then be able to discuss. They can reflect by writing in their journal, talking with a peer, or making another visual representation of what they created for their art.

You do not need to teach this lesson but will discuss it when we meet in class next Saturday. Please plan to bring a sample of your art activity for students (us!) to ‘create' in class.

You must develop a rationale (2-3 pages) explaining the reasons why you chose this particular theme, how it ties into the grade level that you wish to teach, and its significance based on NYS curriculum and NYCCLS. Why is this theme important for your future students to learn about? It is also necessary for you to provide a description of each specific lesson that you included. Why was art chosen to explain this particular concept? How and why did you choose movement to explain this? Why was music included in this lesson? Why did you choose the strategies for the children with disabilities and the English Language Learner?
