Problem: Address the issues in the following case study.
Barbara and George Percovich have come to the practice that you are working in as a counsellor. They were referred by their GP for support with their children's behaviour. Need Assignment Help?
This is your second session with the parents, and they have given you the following information in the first session:
They have three children:
Mattius Raphael Percovich-11 years old
Georgetta Daphne Percovich-9 years old
Sylvester Frances Percovich-7 years old
Background information
Barbara and George Percovich have been married for 15 years. They both have ancestry from Europe but were born in Australia. Both sets of grandparents have been close in supporting the family in raising the children. Both sets of grandparents originated from Europe and moved to Australia before their children (Barbara and George) were born. This has brought some issues in how to respond to the children when there is poor behaviour.
Both parents are working, and they have their parents to look after the children before and after school. Both sets of grandparents live close by and they go to the children's home to look after them alternatively. The parents travel to and from work can take up to an hour each way. They arrive home as the children are finishing their dinner.
The grandparents have similar standards of how they care for the children and there is no confusion when asking the children to follow the instructions. The grandparents cook and prepare most meals during the week including the children's school lunches.
Their school clothes are put out the night before so in the morning they are ready for the children to get dressed and driven to school by the grandparents.
The children are given a set amount of money each week which covers spending money and occasionally buying lunch at the school's canteen. The children are not asked to do any chores including making their beds as the grandparents clean the house where the children are at school. The children arrive home and are given a snack to eat and they get to watch television for an hour before they must do their homework. They then eat dinner, and the parents arrive home before they go to bed.
Current issues:
A pandemic has recently occurred, and the parents have now been working from home. The grandparents have reduced their time looking after the children.
The following behaviours have been experienced by the parents because of working from home:
The children do not unpack their lunchboxes or place them in the kitchen where they can be packed away. Their school bags are left at the front door as well as their shoes and socks and any other equipment the children have brought home from school (sports equipment, musical instruments, notes and permission forms)
Any unclean clothes (uniforms, sports clothes etc.) are found on the floor and not put out to be washed.
The children do not help with any household chores and have not been receptive to being asked to help out around the house.
Letters and forms from the school have come home and not been handed to the parents about specific events and excursions that the children need to return to the school.
When the parents have prompted the children to stop leaving things at the door and put them away, the children at first ignored the instructions and further prompting caused the children to react negatively including yelling and stomping off to their rooms. Sylvester is showing disruptive behaviours by interrupting when anyone else is speaking including his siblings, which causes further arguments in the house.
Goals:
The parents would like to see the children to be more active in helping around the house doing chores and keeping their things in place where they belong.
You will need to formulate a program which will include a daily schedule (that is provided below) that you will suggest what changes to the children's schedule could be implemented to support the behaviour change program.
Completed the following chore chart for each of the children using appropriate rewards and sanctions. To complete the chart you will need to list the chores and how often they are to be done (Daily, weekly etc.), allocate the day/s to be completed by marking the box with an x.
You will also need to allocate end of week rewards when all tasks have been complete, as well sanctions to be applied when chores are not done. An example has been provided.
