fire safety management on railway stationsstorage

Fire safety management on railway stations:

Storage  tanks  are  not  allowed  above  underground  structures  or  within  a  certain distance of them.

Some staff exits are permitted to be smaller than the normal minimum exit width, for example, gates at the end of platforms.

People should be segregated from hazards associated with the tracks, including any electrical hazards.

Underground structures will require ventilation.  Fans will have to be properly rated to cope with the appropriate temperature of smoke.  They have to be capable of operating for at least one hour.

Staff need to be well trained in fire procedures.  This training should be supplemented by fire drills.

Fire mains for fire fighting are important in underground and large stations.    Some platforms in large stations can be a long way from vehicle access points.

Pressurisation systems may be required for fire fighting staircases in underground stations.
