Assignment Task:

Three structures are considered to represent the effect of soft storey in buildings for study. The floor plan adopted in this study is typical commercial building (OMRF). The building has two bays each in horizontal and vertical direction of size 4m each. The considered buildings are symmetrical in plan and elevation having 6 stories with same floor plan. Typical floor-to- floor height is 3 m. The slab thickness is 150 mm. The column and beam dimensions are 230 mm x 450 mm and 230 mm x 400 mm respectively. The infill wall thickness is 230 mm (external) and 115 mm (internal). Specific weight of infill is 20 kN/m3. The intensity of floor finish is 1 kN/m2 and that of live load 3kn/m2. Grade of concrete used is M20. Specific weight of concrete is 25 kN/m3. Building is located in Chennai and hence seismic zone is III according to IS 1893 (Part1):2002 and soil at the foundation level assumed to be medium.
