Find amount of heat that transferred if gases exit process

Consider the combustion of methane using 20% excess air, with a methane conversion of 85%. Air enters at 300oC and methane enters at 25oC. In answering the question you will need to use an enthalpy reference of gas phase at 1.0 atmosphere and 25oC for each of the compounds (feed and product). You will first need to complete the mass balance to find the flows of oxygen and nitrogen fed and the flow of each compound in the product gas stream.

a) For 2.0 mole of methane per second, determine the amount of heat that can be transferred if the gases exit the process at 800.oC.

b) Determine the temperature reached if combustion process is adiabatic. Note that the outlet temperature will be unknown for this case. You can solve either by using an iterative method (set up in Excel and use Solver to find T so that Q = 0) or by solving the quadratic equation that results from the energy balance.
