Explain the roles of stakeholders involved in the planning

Problem:

In response to claims that your district is not meeting the needs of EL students, your superintendent has requested that each school organize a family engagement event specifically for families of EL students. The superintendent has requested a succinct report from each school explaining the details of their proposed event. The superintendent also requests that you make sure each element of the event, your report, and flyer reflect the student diversity for your school and respect cultural differences.

Explain the following:

  • Type of event (e.g., open house, game night) and justification for selection
  • Purpose of event, including the benefits to the school, students, and families
  • Explain the roles of stakeholders involved in the planning, hosting, and follow-up to the event.
  • Develop a communication and promotion strategy to inform families and community stakeholders of the event.
  • Describe the preparations, materials, and resources needed for the event.
  • Formulate a list of school involvement opportunities for EL families that promote inclusion and language acquisition.
  • Generate a directory of community-based resources for EL students and their families that promote language acquisition.
  • Describe the current programs and services related to EL students at your school, including their purpose. Address the following:
  • Academic intervention programs available for EL students (before, during, and/or after school)
  • English language development (ELD) classes to meet English language proficiency requirements
  • Examination procedures and ELD redesignation process
  • Make sure to reflect the student diversity of your school and respect cultural differences.
