"Head Count Reduction"
•Scenario: Imagine you are a Chief Learning Officer (CLO) and you have been asked by the CEO to reduce the department head count in order to right-size the department during tough economic times. You panic, as you already feel you have a lean staff. The department is currently collecting input objectives and reaction objectives on its evaluations. The CLO will report recommendations to the CEO in 10 days. Meanwhile, there are nine days to gather data to show the department's value and impact on the organization.
• In a nine-day time frame, explain the actions the CLO can take to build a compelling case for the department's overall value and business impact, which hopefully minimizes layoffs.
1. Build a measurement and evaluation plan that will allow the CLO to continuously monitor the department's value and worth. Consider what the plan should include and in what order items of the plan should be implemented. This should be fully executed within a six-month time frame.
2. Describe the points-of-pain that this CLO, or any CLO in general, may encounter in executing an evaluation and measurement plan. Discuss if the pain is worth the effort.
