Q: Change management frameworks.
Change can be a good thing. In the case of IT, it could lead to improved software products, more efficient development processes, better tools and more. Nevertheless, the key term to recognise is can. Yes, change can be a good thing, but if not managed properly, that change can quickly become a hindrance.
Poor change management can result in things such as duplicate development efforts, lost information and even increased costs (e.g. using more work hours to remedy mistakes).
In order to prevent disasters in IT, several frameworks exist for managing changes in IT, one of which is the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). As highlighted in this week's Lecture Notes, ITIL was specifically developed to aid the growing dependence organisations have on IT.
Despite the existence of such frameworks, however, organisations still fail, or at least experience difficulties, with IT changes. For this Discussion, your challenge is to describe an IT change in organisation that failed or experienced difficulties and explain how having a framework, such as ITIL, in place could affect the outcome of said change.
To complete this Discussion Post: Create an initial post in which you describe an organisation you worked for or are familiar with that underwent a failed, or at least difficult, IT change.
Also provide a summary of the IT change that failed (or at least experienced difficulty). Explain why you think your IT change example failed or experienced difficulty.
Additionally, explain how you think having a framework, such as ITIL, in place would have affected the outcome of your example IT change and why.
