Review the third grade standards for the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and the Indiana State Standards for Science (3rd Grade). After spending some time with these standards, discuss the differences and similarities between them.
In Indiana, many schools give a 90 minute block to Reading/Language Arts and a 90 minute block to Math and fit in Social Studies and Science "wherever they can". This doesn't alleviate the requirement of meeting the standards, but it does put a lot of pressure on the teachers to creatively think about how they can meet the standards with limited time.
In the next part explain how Inquiry-Based instruction would HELP you to have more time for Science in your classroom AND still meet all the standards that you are required to meet for ALL of your content (Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science).
