Problem:
Respond to at least two of your colleagues' posts in one of the following ways: Expand on your colleague's explanation of the ethical issues regarding reversal designs. Offer perspective on your colleague's ABA or ABAB example representing when reversal designs are ethically appropriate and inappropriate. Reversal designs are tools in applied behavior analysis that allow practitioners to demonstrate functional control by withdrawing and reintroducing an intervention. In an ABA design, the intervention is introduced after baseline, then withdrawn to see if the behavior returns to previous levels. The ABAB design strengthens this by reintroducing the intervention a second time, which provides replication of the effect and ensures the client ends treatment with support in place (Kazdin, 2021). Ethical issues arise because reversal designs require the removal of an intervention that is already working. If the target behavior is dangerous, such as self-injury or aggression it would be unethical to withdraw the treatment because doing so risks harm. Similarly, withdrawing treatment that improves a client's quality of life, like increased communication or social skills, may be considered harmful. The BACB Ethics Code emphasizes that client well-being and safety must come before experimental control (Cooper et al., 2020). Need Assignment Help?
