Explain and defend one of the three theories we have

Explain and defend one of the three theories we have discussed on the topic of persistence through time and qualitative change. For a brief definition of each theory, see PowerPoint lecture 11, slide 13.

Begin by explaining the notions of persistence and qualitative change. Next, introduce your chosen theory, contrasting it with the opposing views. Be sure to include a thesis statement, explain things in your own words, and use your own examples, where appropriate.

If you choose to defend the "Standard" View, you must make an attempt to solve the logical problems of qualitative change (see slides 3 and 4, and the bottom of slide 7). Alternatively, you must explain why you think accepting the flaws in the "Standard" View is better than adopting one of the other two theories.

If you defend the "No Persistence" Theory or the Temporal Parts Theory, you must address the fact that these theories revise our usual view on persistence over time, and explain why you think that consequence is acceptable.

Remember to provide citations for any quotes from the readings (Quine, Arnauld/Nicole, Lowe), the lectures, or any outside sources (including Internet sources). I would recommend, however, that you restrict your sources to the readings and lecture material.
