Leadership Ethics and Team Leadership

Introduction

In Unit 7, you will examine ethics and team leadership. The ethical perspective is fundamentally concerned with the values and morals an individual or society deems desirable or appropriate.

You will explore key ethics-based theories and models that relate to leadership along diverse dimensions and conditions, considering how these perspectives provide a system of rules or guiding principles for decision-making in a specific leadership situation or context.

Team leadership concerns a group of organizational members who are interdependent, share common goals, and coordinate activities to accomplish those goals. You will examine the outcomes of effective teams. You will also explore the manner in which the team leadership model can be applied to a team setting and context for overall effectiveness from a performance perspective. You will also consider the various dimensions, competencies, and attributes of team effectiveness.

Application of Leadership Theories

In the next component of the project you will apply salient leadership theories from your Leadership: Theory and Practice text such as adaptive leadership, servant leadership, or path-goal theory. These theories will underpin the construct of an alternative or adjusted leadership approach (trait, skills, behavioral, or situational).

In Chapter 13 of your text, the author describes the destructive side of leadership in terms of a "toxic triangle" consisting of destructive leaders, susceptible followers, and a conducive environment. Identify a public ethical problem from your professional experience or the media.

Which aspects of the toxic triangle relate to and inform the ethics issue at the individual and organizational levels? How can the toxic triangle be used to help prevent a future occurrence of such an issue within this organization? Be sure to appropriately cite and reference your sources in current APA style.
