Figure Q2-A shows two gears A and C attached to a shaft supported by bearing and B and D. Forces acted on gear A and C are 180 N and 200 N respectively. Draw load, shear force, bending moment and shaft torsional moment diagrams for the shaft, in both XY and XZ planes, and then locate the most endangered x-section of the shaft. You need to determine the shaft and size fittings and then the drawing of the shaft.

The figure shown (figure Q 2-B) is geared countershaft with an overhanging point at C. Select an angular contact ball bearing for mounting at O and a straight roller bearing for mounting at B. the force on gear A is FA = 2670N, and the shaft is to run at a speed of 450 rpm. Specify the bearing required, using an application factor of 1.4, a desired life of 50 000 h, and a combined reliability goal of 0.9.
