Employee readiness to learn

Task: Training is very important to employee development, but what if the employee is not ready or able to learn the information provided. I feel a key to training employees is understanding how ready they are to learn.

Mathis (2008) explains an employee's readiness to learn in three separate steps:

1. Ability to Learn: Learners must possess basic skills in order to complete training successfully.

2. Motivation to Learn: If there is no motivation to learn the material there is a higher chance of failure.

3. Self-Efficacy: Self-Efficacy is defined as a, "Person's belief that he or she can learn the training program content," (pg. 270).
