CONTRACT MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT

OBJECTIVE: To examine and compare types of standard contract used in Malaysia.

INSTRUCTIONS: You are required to provide a report on the tasks to achieve the assessment criteria which are set out in the marking rubric. It is acceptable to use the opinions and judgments of project professionals to support your work.

QUESTION: The administration of construction contracts in Malaysia is facilitated through a Standard Form of Contract. The application of each however depends on the type of project, mode of finance and owner of the project. International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), Public Work Department 203A (PWD 203A), CIDB and Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) standards form of contract are widely implemented in Malaysia. Each of the Standard Form of Contracts has their own different approaches.

Choose TWO types of standard forms of contract. Critically review the main elements of contract types, roles and responsibilities of parties involve. You may support your discussion with existing projects.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT

OBJECTIVE: This assignment is intended to provide you the opportunity to apply various theories, concepts and practices of 'Change Management' to projects in many disciplines and area of specialization.

QUESTION: Change is an integral characteristic of any organization. All organization whether public or private sector, must change to survive in the dynamic environment (Gareis, 2010). The change project normally originates from a reaction to specific problems and/or opportunities faced by the organization either from the internal sources or from external environment.

'In many cases, the effective management of change project has often been an issue. Most organizations that adopted change management practices had only succeeded with minimal efforts (Samuel, 2013). In any change management endeavors, the main issue normally relates to failure in addressing the critical aspects of the change process (Hayes, 2010)'.

Pursuant to this statement, you are to CRITICALLY discuss and propose a change management model together with the change process involved for any change project of your choice. The model proposed should be applicable to any change project from the context of organizational change, team as well as individual.

The assignment consists of THREE (3) interrelated tasks which are to be adhered strictly. The required tasks and marks allocated are explained below:

TASK 1: Executive Summary

To provide an executive summary with the objective for preparing the report, structure of the report, the project change issues and conclusions with recommendation to be included.

Full comprehensive listing with the corresponding numbers of executive summary, introduction, main sections, references, individual appendices and full listing of all figures and tables are provided in the report. (Executive Summary and Table of Content will not form part of the assignment word count).

TASK II: Change Management Model

You are required to critically discuss the model and/or approach adopted and clearly explains the change process involve for the project. Justify by supporting with relevant literatures cited. The key areas MUST cover the following:

Introduction

Briefly state the objective of introducing the change project such as to an organization, a department or any area of concerned of your choice. The information provided should be sufficient to present your case for the change project.

The Change Model Chosen

Briefly explain the various change management approach exist in literatures. (Examples: Schein's Model, Lewin's Model, Kotter's Model, Mc Kinley's, Shields and ADKAR Model).

Select the appropriate model for the project and justify reason for selection.

Provide the advantages and limitations of the chosen approach.

Change Management Process

Comprehensively discuss the change management process for the project with relevant literatures to support. This should include the following:

  • Essential Need for Change
  • Initiating the Change
  • Diagnosis
  • Managing People Issues
  • Plan & Prepare to Change
  • Implement the Change
  • Sustain the Change

The Challenges of Managing Change

Discuss the issues confronting or face in managing change drawn from the project and identify the critical success factors for change management initiatives.

TASK III: Conclusion & Recommendation

Conclusion to be provided base on the above analysis. Discuss the importance of effective change management process for future projects of change.

Recommendations to be provided corresponding to the specific conclusions in relation to the change project and lessons learned.
