Efforts to address conflicts social injustices inequalities

Question: "Efforts to address conflicts, social injustices, inequalities and poverty both at home (Australia) and abroad through the United Nations and significant NonGovernment Organisations have produced mixed results. In this work students will examine an issue on vulnerable persons and groups (weeks 9-13) and discuss and critique efforts by the UN, Governments and Non-Government Organisations to address and alleviate these social problems so as to achieve peace and encourage/enable development." NB: It is stated in the Learning Guide that "a list of questions" will be presented. Due to the heterogeneity of the information being presented in the lectures weeks 9-13, a uniform question with options for illustration will ensure parity across topics whilst still providing the option for student choice of topic. What students need to do:

? Students need to attend/listen to the audio recordings of the lectures weeks 9-13 to best enable a good grade.

? Students must address the question specifically and accurately.

? A "broad" description of their chosen groups is unacceptable .

? In their essays students must refer to theoretical literature for the formation of their argument and use 10 academic references (any information from lectures are to be referenced correctly and are to be counted as add-on references as are other non-academic references - ie. in addition to the 10 references).

? Students must aim for clear, logical, succinct argument. Students must display a capacity for measured, balanced and reflective thought showing an awareness, sensitivity and consideration of potential personal and cultural biases.

? Subheadings may be used but sparingly. ? The work should be written in discursive style and be readily comprehended. Work cannot be marked if it cannot be understood.
