Effectiveness of the special education program

Assignment task:

Teachers of students with moderate to severe disabilities are required to use communication, organizational, and leadership skills to work effectively with support team members to provide a positive structured learning environment that promotes cohesive delivery of services for students.  These skills can impact the effectiveness of the special education program even if it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs of each student. The delineation of roles and responsibilities for each team member, including the specific support and services each provide, is a critical part of facilitating and managing the support team.

Throughout this course and subsequent courses, you will begin to develop a portfolio of foundational documents and materials that you can use as you transition into professional practice. For this assignment, (create) a visual that clearly delineates the roles and responsibilities of the support staff and service providers that typically interact with and support students with moderate to severe disabilities in the educational setting. This visual should be an easy-to-read document that can be shared with paraprofessionals, substitutes, service providers, parents, administrators, etc. When creating the visual, include the lead special education teacher, paraprofessionals, the school nurse, and two additional support staff and/or service providers. For each of the members of the support team, include the following information in the visual:

Title of the individual support team role

Description of the purpose and general responsibilities of the support team role

Description of the type of support and service provided by each support team role

In (250-500) words, summarize your action plan for ensuring classroom collaboration and communication to provide a cohesive service delivery for students with moderate to severe disabilities.

In the summary, address the following.

Consider each support team member identified in the visual and describe effective communication skills that could be implemented with the support team to ensure cohesive service delivery and optimize learning opportunities for students with moderate to severe disabilities.

Explain why it is important for the special education teacher, support staff, and service providers to maintain regular, effective communication with one another and with students' parents/guardians. Include discussion and examples of the implementation of communication and collaborative strategies and processes. Explain how these strategies and processes create a well-run classroom where support staff can anticipate and address needs, and service providers can deliver support in a manner that is least disruptive to the class and most seamless for the students.
