Competitive Strategies
Management has recognized the effect of changes in the real-world competitive environment and government policies on other industries and anticipates similar events occurring in their INDUSTRY, so they ask you for a report considering the following points.
Prepare a 12- to 15- page PowerPoint presentation in which you describe how each of the following are or potentially will affect an INDUSTRY of your choice. Use up-to-date, relevant graphs/charts/tables to support your arguments:
• Title page
• Agenda for the presentation
• Define and describe industry selected (e.g. Tablets, Cell Phones (including iPhones and similar devices), coffee houses (like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc.), discount stores (like Walmart, Target), etc.)
• Discuss the new companies entering the market, mergers taking place in the industry (Identify the type of merger activity in your industry-horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate-and explain why you made that choice). You MUST select an industry that has experiences some type of merger activity.
• Discuss globalization (are firms in the industry going global or expanding internationally?).
• Discuss pricing trends and strategies firms in the industry have taken or plan to take to sustain profits. Must include table or chart with price comparisons among firms in the industry to get credit. No table/chart with data, not credit.
• Discuss current and expected externalities AND government policies and regulations (including taxes and non-tax regulations) in place to address these issues related to externalities.
• Discuss global competition on the decisions made by management with regards 2 topics from this list: changes in innovation, changes in technology, labor demand issues/changes, labor supply issues/changes, outsourcing issues/changes, unions issues/changes, and rules and regulations (e.g. wages, healthcare, etc.) in your chosen industry
• Discuss specific examples of how some companies in the industry are dealing with issues related to ethics. What specific programs have some companies established to be a socially responsible organization?
• Finish with a conclusion (Select 2 to 4 most important changes taking place in this industry that will affect competitiveness in this industry)
• Include a Reference slide. Include a minimum of 3 references.
