Drupal content management system - implement your web site

Drupal Content Management System

The purpose of this assignment is to give you exposure to using a content management system. For this course we will be using Drupal. Drupal is an open source content management system, which means that it is free to install and use. Drupal is being used to host numerous large-scale web sites including Amnesty International, NASA Project and Leadership, and BBC The World.

As this course is about content management, you must use Drupal for this assignment. Do not code your web site directly using HTML and CSSs regardless of whether you think it will give your web site more functionality and flexibility. This is not the point of this course, and your assignment will not be marked if it is not implemented using Drupal.

Undertake the following tasks:

1. Create a hosting account and install Drupal. The hosting account should not cost you any more than $10 (refer to Kelsey Chapter 4), alternately you can use Drupal Gardens for free. If you have your own server, you may use it for the purposes of this assignment.

2. Implement your web site design from your weekly blog activities using Drupal. You are encouraged to use as much of Drupal's functionality as possible. You can also add extra modules to extend Drupal's capabilities if required.

3. Put a link to your Drupal site on your blog, and try to promote your web site using your blog and Facebook.

You must work individually on this assignment. You cannot do implement a web site for the same topic as another student. Do not reproduce an existing commercial website or steal the majority of your content from an existing commercial website.

Criteria and Marking: You will be assessed on the following criteria: Presentation - 20%,

Content - 30%, Navigation - 10%, Functionality - 30%, and Labelling - 10%. Specifics about the marking criteria (i.e., what exactly we will be looking for in your answers) will be made available in a marking rubric on the course web site. Feedback: The marking rubric will outline exactly what you have achieved and what is required to improve your marks. The teaching team will also add additional comments.
