Dissolved oxygen in water will oxidize an alkaline

Dissolved oxygen in water will oxidize an alkaline suspension of Mn(OH)2 to Mn(OH)3: O2(g) + 4Mn(OH)2 + 2H2O = 4Mn(OH)3 Upon being acidified the manganese(III) hydroxide produced will oxidize iodide to iodine, which, in turn is titrated with standard thiosulfate: 2Mn(OH)3(s) + 2I- + 6H= 2Mn2+ + I2 + 6H2O I2 + 2S2O32= 2I- + S4O62-
