Discussion about unity of consciousness

Assignment task:

Unity of consciousness means that we are conscious of a lot of different things at once. We are conscious of the world round us, and about ourselves, our feelings, and our thoughts. One theory that tries to explain the unity of consciousness is dualism which means that "every person has their own single consciousness distinct from their physical brain" (Blackmore & Troscianko, 2018, p. 129). It is saying that consciousness is separate from the brain, and that it more than just that. It is the self-conscious mind. Benjamin Libet, believed in the conscious mental field. We are always aware and that the mind and the brain don't always have to always be working together, however they also work together. How the brain, mind, and body come together and work in unity and as a whole. This other theory is the opposite of the last theory. One theory that tries to explain it away is the unity of action. Where the idea of the unity of consciousness and representation or experiences is no longer used and unified as a whole. What this theory concludes is that consciousness appears through an interaction between brain, body, and environment. British biophysicist Rodney Cotterill says that "our organism was not to unify conscious experience but rather to avoid destroying the unity that Nature provided" (Blackmore & Troscianko, 2018, p. 141). Which means that the theory is saying that people are acting in the theory of sensorimotor theory instead of receiving the information. Another theory is that unity is an illusion. Therefore, are we only conscious when we ask ourselves if we are conscious?  With what the theory says, this question would be true because when we are not paying attention or being aware then it would be an illusion. Between the two the theory that I prefer is the theory of dualism. In my opinion the unity of consciousness is very complex. How do we actually know that there is or isn't. The brain and mind can work together but they also work separately. I don't believe that consciousness is an illusion. I think that we are always conscious even if we do not ask ourselves if we are aware.
