Discussion about planning on careers in medicine

Assignment task:

Rationale: This exercise gives you a chance to reflect back on the quarter and summarize the insights and knowledge you've gained over the last 10 weeks.  Educational experts call this metacognition -- thinking about our thoughts.  They say that taking time to reflect and capture our progress in our memory banks is a key to better learning and growth.

Instructions:  Please take a page and a half or so (no limit) to think back on your knowledge of Biomedical Ethics. Highlight at least 3 concepts, conceptual distinctions, principles, cases, or reasoning strategies that you want to remember. Highlight things that can help you to help you think through ethical issues you are likely to encounter in the future.

Some of you are planning on careers in medicine that might require med school and, thus, a med school interview, which often involves a medical ethics discussion about a case.  This is a good chance to think about an all-purpose strategy for analyzing ethics cases.  What are some good questions to ask when analyzing a case, and what are some useful things to remember when answering those questions?  What cases do you want to remember to illustrate or defend your answers to these questions? (Ethics in America is a great resource)
