Assignment:
Reflect upon and discuss your perspective on and approach to teaching and learning. Build your discussion around the theories and concepts from the readings while explaining what this means for you as a learner and a teacher/educator. Also, consider how the various aspects of your identity (gender, race/ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, ability, socio¬economic status/class, etc.) influence who you are as an educator and learner.
This is an opportunity to make theories come alive as you reflect upon how some of them may (or may not) apply to your own personal and professional life. Build on the online discussion questions and inventory reflections to add to your understanding. You should attempt to identify a philosophy that can help guide you in your practice in working with an adult learner; you can think of this 2 to 3 page statement as a "mission statement" that helps define your purpose as an educator.
Many teaching jobs require a teaching philosophy as part of an application package. Consider making this statement "outward-facing" by considering what a future employer would want to know about you and your teaching philosophy. I will provide feedback on this assignment. primarily on the effective conveyance of one's teaching and learning. Peer feedback can be provided as well if enough students are interested.
