Discuss theoretical perspectives on race and ethnicity

Problem: Theoretical perspectives on race and ethnicity such as functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism each offer unique strengths and limitations. Functionalism highlights how diversity can contribute to social stability, but it often overlooks systemic inequality. Conflict theory, rooted in Marxist ideas, emphasizes the power struggles and economic interests that sustain racism and ethnic oppression, making it powerful for exposing injustice but sometimes too focused on conflict rather than cooperation. Symbolic interactionism, on the other hand, explores how everyday interactions shape racial meanings and identities, yet it may fail to address larger structural issues. Having several theoretical viewpoints is beneficial because race and ethnicity are complex and multidimensional, requiring multiple lenses to fully understand. Personally, conflict theory is the most compelling, as it directly challenges systems of inequality and is most aligned with promoting social justice and equity. In my community, there are people from many different racial and ethnic backgrounds, including White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American families. People often talk about how to make our schools and neighborhoods fair and welcoming for everyone. We celebrate different cultures with food festivals, music, and holidays, which helps us learn about each other. Respond Using 4 Engaging Sentences. Need Assignment Help?
