Problem
Students will write a letter to the parents explaining the basic concepts of the emergent curriculum approach.
Your parent letter should include the following elements.
• Greeting/Introduction and brief summary of your background in education. If you are not teaching, include your training in early childhood education.
• Give a brief history of the approach.
• Summarize the elements of emergent curriculum.
• Discuss the importance of play in early childhood curriculum.
• Discuss the importance of following the responsive curriculum planning planning cycle.
• Concluding paragraph summarizing your letter.
Write Up
Introduction:
• Greeting/Introduction and brief summary of your background in education. If you are not teaching, include your training in early childhood education. This should be one paragraph.
Body
• Discuss your goals, which is to summarize the elements of the emergent curriculum approach. Give an introduction of the history of this approach and why it is important to children's development and learning.
• Go into detail about each of the elements of the emergent curriculum approach as outlined in the course. They include the play, the image of child, the role of the teacher, the environment as the third teacher, the parent's role, responsive curriculum planning cycle,-(observing, planning, implanting, reflecting, and documenting children's work) and webbing.
