In Chapter 10, you learned about a number of motivational theories including the Needs Hierarchy Approach, the Two-Factor Theory, Expectancy Theory, Goal-Setting Theory, and reinforcement. You also learned about the management strategies, such as empowerment and participation, alternative forms of work arrangements, and reward systems (including executive compensation), that are used to apply these theories in order to motivate employees.

1. Discuss some of the common themes that appear in these theories. Focus on two of the theories and compare them to each other. Explain what is different about them.

2. Discuss some of the new scientific thoughts reviewed by Daniel Pink or one of the authors of the articles above on these theories. Incorporate intrinsic motivation, autonomy, mastery, and purpose (as shown in the video or another theory that you read about) into your discussion. How do you think leaders in business should respond to this? Find a sentence in the textbook that supports your thoughts and cite it appropriately.

3. How do managers use motivation theory in the workplace?

Be sure to include a Reference section at the end of your response that includes the videos and the textbook.

PART II: Essay

Directions: You will have two tasks to complete in this section of the Module 5 Homework Assignment. You must write a response of one to two paragraphs in length for each task. Please provide detailed and elaborate responses to the following questions. Your responses should include examples from the reading assignments.

1. Describe a job with which you are familiar. Name the type of reward system (fixed-rate, merit, incentive, or some combination) that is used. Explain whether this is the most effective system for the particular job or not.

2. Think of a leader who you know from any organization (church, school, work, etc) and name the related approach to leadership that this individual uses (charismatic, transformational, strategic, cross-cultural, or ethical). Explain why that leadership style is effective in the particular situation. You must describe and define the leadership style using in-text citations and APA formatting. Explain how the person's behavior demonstrates that type of leadership style.
