The purpose of this assignment is to construct a cohort study design or clinical trial study design to research a public health issue. The selected study design should help better understand the relationship between disease or health-related behavior and its effect on a specific population.
Issue/ Study design: Cannabis Use and Long-Term Neural Impacts / Retrospective Cohort study design
I. Why are cohort and clinical trial study designs? What's the difference between retrospective and prospective cohort designs? Why are all these study designs important to public health and for the future of public Health?
II. Compare the characteristics of cohort and clinical trial study designs. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each type of study design and explain when & Why each type of study design would be used.
III. Describe Cannabis Use and Long-Term Neural Impacts. Generate a hypothesis for Cannabis Use and Long-Term Neural Impacts. Explain why you chose this study design for your topic and why the study design you chose is better than the other study design option.
IV. Discuss how subjects will be recruited for your study and how data and responses will be collected. Explain ethical guidelines for recruiting study participants and conducting a research study.
V. Identify the independent and dependent variables of the study and select a statistical measure to investigate the association between the variables.
VI. Discuss potential confounding factors of the cohort study design.
