Discuss how the lies supports the theme of revenge

Assignment Task: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr Chapter 1 The Principles of Mechanics

From Hamlet by William Shakespeare, how do the two lies (below) contribute to the development of the theme Revenge. Discuss how the lies (Out-and-Out Lies) supports the theme of revenge. Use as many examples as you can and explain your reasoning.

1. Act 1, Scene, 1, Lines 167-168: Out-and-Out Lies - In these lines, Gertrude tells Hamlet that she does not know where Polonius is, even though she knows that he is hiding behind the curtains in her room. Gertrude is telling an out-and-out lie in order to protect herself and her relationship with Claudius.

2. Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 628-629: Out-and-Out Lies - In these lines, Claudius tells Laertes that he did not kill King Hamlet, but that "the serpent that did sting thy father's life / Now wears his crown." Claudius is telling an out-and-out lie in order to deflect suspicion away from himself and onto the supposed "serpent," who is likely a metaphor for the poison he used to kill King Hamlet.
