Based on your own experiences growing up, your beliefs and values and experiences in the education system, do you think the focus in early childhood should be supporting acquisition of English language instead of a child's home language OR supporting dual or multiple languages equally? Explain your response using your experiences and values to help others understand.
You have just moved from Mexico to a small town in Wisconsin. You are struggling financially and need to get a job to help support your family. You and your partner have very limited English proficiency, but would like to find an early childhood education center for your two-year-old son so he can maintain his culture language as well as learn English. Unfortunately, you have not been able to find a program like this in your new small town. Explain with a persuasive letter (through an interpreter of course, in English!) to a fictitious director of an early childhood education center, explaining the why you want your child to hold onto his root culture and language while also learning the culture and language of his new country. Be specific about how you, as his mother, think this would benefit not only your child and family but all the others enrolled in the program. Use theory to support your argument, while writing in family friendly language.
