Problem: Therapists and clients typically have many different types of power struggles. The most infamous being structural and professional power over the clients. The clients will feel powerless in therapy settings frequently due to the nature of the setup, therapists asking deep questions about the client, diagnosing or even potentially sending them away to a facility. This can make clients feel as though they lack power. Clients also have some power, they can with hold information not giving the counselor a full view of what is truly going on. This can lead to a misdiagnosis of the client and hurt their treatment. A way that therapists and clients can help establish a more egalitarian relationship is by both parties realizing the power they hold. Doing this would mean both parties being transparent, by asking questions and setting boundaries. Therapists can also check in every few sessions to see what is and isn't working well. This helps give everyone more power. Collaboration is key; otherwise the power balance will be off. Type a good peer response. Need Assignment Help?
