Discuss constructs you identify as missing from the models

Module- Case Assignment: CULTURAL COMPETENCE FRAMEWORKS AND CULTURAL CONTEXT

Case Assignment

Background: This assignment will consist of two parts. The first will examine cultural competence models. These models, utilized in health science to approach the phenomenon of culture, can generally be grouped in two categories: internal provider factors and external provider factors. In this case, we will examine internal and external models used in cultural competence.

The second part of this assignment will explore the context for considering culture in health science practice. Now that one is familiar with some of the cultural competence models, how is usage situated within a practice setting?

Task

Part I:

Identify two cultural competence models in the peer-reviewed literature and provide a paragraph or two on each of the following items for each model:

1. Discuss the focus of each model, internal to the health care provider or external to the health care provider, and summarize the main constructs of each model.

2. Discuss any constructs you identify as missing from these models.

3. Discuss how each model contributes to development of the health care provider.

Part II:

Discuss the following, each within its own section and with appropriate section headings.

1. The definition of patient-centered care and cultural competence.
2. Compare and contrast patient-centered care to cultural competence.
3. Benefits of patient-centered care.
4. Drawbacks of patient-centered care.
5. Possible ways to improve and implement patient-centered care in health care organizations .

Note: In your write-up use section headings for each question.

Discussion: Discuss Various Sources of Information about Culture and Evaluate the Credibility of Those Sources

The Internet is full of information. Sometimes, the information we find using online sources is very well done, reliable, and accurate. Other times, we find ourselves on a Web page that has less-than-credible information. It is important to keep this in mind as we explore culture. To help us determine what makes a site credible. How do you know whether a website is credible? What are signs that it is something you should not use for an academic paper? I would also like you to post a link to a site that you have found specific to cross-cultural study. Tell us if you feel that the site is credible and why. By the end of this week, working collaboratively, we can develop a virtual library of credible information sources that will aid us in future cross-cultural study.

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
