In this case, the patient asked to and the LVN as prompted did administer the medication as well as he could to his ability of education and practice and documented as he needed to. During a shift handover, the charge practice nurse criticized the LVN publicly, stating that the LVN had to consult with her first and what he did wasn't acceptable. The exchange was incredibly tense, with the charge nurse nearly shouting at the LVN, who had no chance to speak up for themselves. The LVN later on seemed tense and mainly remained quiet for the rest of his shift. After this tension wore off, he confided in me about his feelings of not feeling comfortable with taking first hand responsibility with patient care anymore.
