Discuss about the nonmaterial and material culture

Problem 1: Which ideas did you find most interesting in Iyengar's talk, "The Art of Choosing"? Name at least two specific ideas and explain why you found them sociologically interesting.

Problem 2: What can we learn overall about how people experience choice (considering the three studies from the main talk altogether)? In other words, what is the overall message about choice and culture? Please incorporate the terms ethnocentrism and cultural relativism in your answer.

Problem 3: Culture is divided into two broad categories, including nonmaterial and material culture. Material culture includes the physical objects (or artifacts) of a given society, while nonmaterial culture includes our thoughts and actions. One part of nonmaterial culture is the system of symbols we use to communicate meaning and which allow for social interaction. Spend a little time thinking about or observing the symbolic culture around you (gestures, language and other parts of symbolic culture you see and use in your daily life).  Write a paragraph discussing your observations.  Be sure to include discussion of the symbols you see being shown or used and why these symbols are important or meaningful as a part of a shared culture.
