I will make a difference by ensuring that teachers are equipped, empowered, and intentionally supported in their practice. When teachers feel confident and prepared, they are more motivated to teach effectively. At the same time, students must be given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities to learn meaningfully.  This creates a balance: teachers who are keen to teach and students who are eager to learn. As Carroll et al.,(2024) emphasize in The Good  Teacher's Odyssey, effective teaching requires both professional support  and a commitment to fostering student growth.

My growth as a literacy leader will come through promoting discipline-specific literacy and challenging biases that undervalue its importance. In my field of public health education, health literacy is directly tied to health outcomes: the higher the level of health literacy, the better the overall health of individuals and communities. By advocating for literacy within specific disciplines, I can help teachers and students see its relevance beyond traditional reading and writing, connecting it to real-world applications. As Coughlin et al., (2020) highlight, health literacy is a critical factor in disease prevention and control, underscoring the broader impact of literacy leadership. Need Assignment Help?

Reflecting on the various modules during this course, ?I have gained a? newfound ?appreciation for? literacy ?as a foundational?  component of learning. Whether in formalized education or in my field of public health with a focus on health literacy, I understand that literacy serves as the foundation and building blocks for ultimate outcomes for every student, teacher, parent, and individual navigating this world (Nutbeam, 2000).

With my now formal understanding of education, curriculum and instruction, and specifically health literacy, I will make a difference by taking a more differentiated approach when providing support, oversight, mentorship, and contributing to instruction. I will make a difference by continuing to be an advocate, exploring new practices, and staying current on best practices through my commitment to professional development. Most importantly, I will continue to maintain a network of diverse professionals in my circles so that I can continue to grow and learn, not only as an educator but as a lifelong student.

After completing this course, I have confirmation that the field I have chosen is one dedicated to continuous quality improvement and continued education. This is not only a commitment I have for myself but also a commitment required to continue doing the work and making a difference. I will continue to grow as a literacy leader by staying an active learner along my journey.
