Discussion post 1:

During my time at SRG, I observed a clear example of groupthink in a project group tasked with developing a sustainability initiative for our new hires . Initially, we brainstormed numerous ideas, but as discussions progressed, one member, who was particularly assertive, began to dominate the conversation. Others, perhaps out of fear of conflict or desire for harmony, stopped voicing differing opinions. We settled on a single idea without thoroughly evaluating its feasibility or considering alternative solutions.

This project ultimately failed to gain traction because didn't resonate with the broader new hires. Reflecting on this experience, it's evident that groupthink stifled creativity and critical judgment.

To counteract this, we could have implemented a strategy of using smaller breakout groups. By splitting into smaller teams to explore different ideas, we would have fostered a space for diverse perspectives. Each group could present its findings to the larger group, encouraging critical evaluation of every proposed idea. This approach not only promotes healthy dissent but also reinforces a culture of collaborative critical thinking, ultimately leading to a more robust final proposal that reflects the interests of a wider audience. I would say that I witnessed a groupthink when I was in high school in my language arts class. It all started when my language arts teacher started to assign a Shakespeare project that would need four or five people in  the group to do a timeline on Shakespeare most famous works meaning his plays and poems. Also, the reason why my language arts teacher wanted us meaning the students to work in groups was to show us the true meaning of teamwork and how good was we with worthing with other people or not. As day's passed after the teacher assigned the Shakespears project. I have seen most groups agree with their members on the information and stuff that was going on in their groups. Then I end up seeing this one particular group that seemed to have a problem with every little thing their group members try to do or say. Also, it seemed like everyday they had a debate with each other on what was good and bad to put on the project too. Then the way they were acting towards each other was not a good look either when the teacher  would come around to check on each group too. The scenario that would've  helped this groupthink be stopped would be to have a one on one with each group member and listen to  what ideas they have and try to compare and contrast it with the next person. When that is over, everybody should come to agreement on what fits best to be put on the project.
