Developing a resource guide for parents


Assignment Task: Develop a Parent Resource Guide

Assume you have been chosen to be an instructional coach at your school. One of your responsibilities in this role is to be a parent liaison. In this capacity, you have been charged with developing a resource guide for parents. Focus on one of the groups listed below, and on how they are served in inclusive settings.

  • High-incidence disabilities
  • Low-incidence disabilities
  • Gifted and Talented
  • At-risk students

Your guide should include the following parts. In parentheses, I am giving a sample, using at-risk students as the topic.

  • Page 1: The definition (What does it mean to be at-risk? What are the characteristics?)
  • Page 2: Challenges that student have (What particular instructional or behavioral challenges to students who are at-risk present?)
  • Page 3: How teachers address this in inclusive settings (How do teachers address the needs of learners who are at-risk?)
  • Page 4: Program options (What program options/services are available for students who are at-risk?)
  • Page 5: What parents can do to enhance learning (How can parents help students who are at-risk?) Need Assignment Help?
  • Page 6: Annotated website list. Locate 5 online resources for parents. Provide the web address, and a short summary of what is found on each site.

Suggestions:

  • Read the rubric carefully to ensure you are completing all requirements.
  • Be certain that you are using person-first language.

Use: students with disabilities, students with behavior disorders, students who are gifted, students who are at-risk

Do not use: special education students, special needs students, students with special needs
