This assessment brief contains four parts; A, B, C and D.

To achieve a pass in this unit, you must successfully address all of the assessment criteria's listed.

Task 1:

Assuming you are the team leader at JD Ilford branch, managing a team of 10, using a similar table provided below, carry out the following tasks:

1.1 Develop your own responsibilities and performance objectives for the next six months.

1.2 Evaluate whether the performance objectives set in 1.1 were met or not (If met or not explain your reason (s) in each case).

1.3 Draw up two (2) necessary recommendations for improvement for each of the performance objectives met or not (Guidance: you still need to come up with recommendations even if you've stated it was met).

1.4 Review how motivational techniques can be used to improve quality of performance of your team.

Task 2

Scenario

As a new Line Manager at Sport Direct, you identified the following problems in your branch at Oxford Street:

a) There are more than 50% complain rates from customers every month.

b) 60% of recruits leave within the first 2 months of stay and when you investigated this you found out that most of the staff was not motivated.

c) There are always long queues in the branch and customers on average spend around 15 minutes in the queue and at least 7 minutes with the cashier.

d) Most of the staff don't quite understand their roles and have raised complaints about this to your predecessor however, no action was taken.

2.1

In the capacity of a Line Manager, Write a ‘MEMO' to all colleagues outlining the solution (s) to at least two (2) of the work problems

2.2 List down the various styles of communication and show which of these styles is appropriate in communicating to:

a) Your boss
b) Your colleague and
c) Your subordinate

2.3 Identify (list) five ways to manage your time effectively and explain any two of those ways making reference to appropriate examples.

To achieve M1, you would have made effective judgement on the solutions to work based problems.

To achieve M2, you would have applied an appropriate learning technique (s) in answering P6 (List down the various types and levels of communication using an organisation of your choice).

To achieve M3, you would have effectively written a memo on work based solutions

Task 3

3.1
Using Belbin's theory on Teams; (a) explain the different roles people play in a team and (b) show how they can collectively work together to achieve shared goals

3.2 Analyse (break down) the concept of team dynamics (Guidance: you will need to cover team formation, team cohesiveness etc).

3.3 As a customer services manager at Barclays UK , you have been given a target by the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) to increase customer satisfaction from 30% to 50% in between March to May 2015. Suggest/ or put forward alternative ways of achieving this task.

To achieve D1, you would have provided a good conclusion to your work. A good conclusion would include an overall combination and justification of your ideas.

To achieve D2, you would have provided a good table of content, present headings and sub-headings (where necessary) to each of the learning criterion/question to be attempted.

Task 4

4.1 List down four (4) possible methods that can be generally used to solve work based problems. Take two of those methods and evaluate them. (Note: Give at least four (4) advantages and four (4) disadvantages of each.)

4.2 Develop an appropriate strategy for resolving a work based problem (Note: you may need to create or use a real life work based problem and then suggest at least (ONE) strategy for resolving such problems as a manager of any organisation of your choice. This is an application question).

4.3 Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of your chosen strategy above on the performance of an organisation of your choice 4.2 (P12).

To achieve D2, you would have provided a good table of content, present headings and sub-headings (where necessary) to each of the learning criterion/question to be attempted.

To achieve D3, you would have effectively created and proper solution to work base provided in task 4.2.
