DESCRIPTION ONE:

Provide technical direction and engineering knowledge for communications activities including planning, designing, developing, testing, installing maintaining LAN/WAN or large communications networks.  Supervise complex operations that involve two or more additional functions such as, but not limited to, network operations, systems security, systems software support, and production support activities.  Troubleshoot network systems when necessary and makes improvements to the network. ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided to direct building architects and planners in building communications spaces media pathways meet industry standards

Manage and  monitor unclassified and classified network elements alarms on LAN/WAN systems using tools such as Netcool, Information Network Management Systems, Cisco Prime Optical, Cisco Transport Manager, SILVX, Network Change and Configuration Management

Successfully perform fault isolation and diagnostic/assessment functions including the execution of corrective actions for routers, switches, and firewalls utilizing knowledge of OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and ATM

Configure/de-configure VoIP/VoSIP services for mission-deployed units

Manage network encryptors such as KG-7, KG-157, and KG-250 and their effective expiration dates of cryptographic keys

Complete power point documentation of routing and traffic flow analysis using Eheath

Coordinates with management and implementation entities to ensure optimum dissemination of information and network efficiency

Technical specialist responsible for monitoring, operating and managing, troubleshooting and restoring service comprising of DISN or DRSN networks which include data/voice communications equipment, multiplexers, data terminal equipment, transmission media, Taclanes, WCF, GCN, Satellite Communications (SATCOM), ATM, Promina, Cisco Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP), Sycamore Networks Optical, Cisco/juniper routers and other emerging technologies

Create, update, and resolve outages using Remedy ticketing system

Accountable for the security of systems and software including McAfee Sidewinder firewalls, RSA SecureID servers and token hardware (authentication hardware/software) Train, coach, and mentor junior team members in their career development

Provide support and guidance for network service to insure services are in conformance to Information Assurance requirement and regulatory policies

Assist the local area network (LAN) Contingency of Operations Plan (COOP)

 

DESCRIPTION TWO

Participate in planning of IT initiatives including installations, configuring as well as performing equipment setup, upgrades, configuration adds moves changes.  Maintain network security, availability, reliability, and integrity by planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and adjusting of the security measures.  Conduct security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities related to physical security, staff safety, or asset protection.  Provide Windows administration, network operating center (NOC) administration, LAN/WAN/VPN administration, VMware administration, and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) monitoring.

Informational technical specialist monitoring, operating, analyzing, troubleshooting and restoring core services to components of the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) 

Directed the implementation and performance tuning of data/voice communications to include video teleconferences on secret and top secret networks

Completed courseware that meets the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) training standard for an Information Systems Security Professional NSTISSI No.4011

Reduced system vulnerabilities by performing system and asset hardening with DISA approved security tools.

Manage HBSS network operations and report incident response activities for to maintain situational awareness of changes in policy 

Image and deploy standard desktop configuration on laptop and desktop computers in accordance with DoD standards

Provide information systems administration support for intelligence/communications systems architectures to ensure mission demands are fully met and the architecture software/hardware infrastructure fully supports the Intelligence mission.

Organize and maintain data accountability for network equipment, servers, and commercial wireless devices accomplishing 100% accountability.

Modify computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors, or change individual access status

Use independent judgment with users and remote operating centers in routine and monitoring situations on the Internet, Intranet, servers, computer/data security and network infrastuctures

Resolved system failures, reported network connectivity and computer operation problems at all levels and initiates remedial action to obtain operation across all platforms including e-mail, file transfer, multimedia and teleconferencing

Create and manage user accounts utilizing Active Directory, Active Identity, and Active Client tools on unclassified, classified and top secret networks.

Provide remote technical support to field offices OCONUS via Dameware

Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) regarding  systems processes,  operational changes, and technical equipment refresh to increase efficiency and effectiveness

Provide end user support with reconfiguration of Windows 2007 client workstation, software security updates, imaging of hard drives, and replacing hardware components. 

Prepares technical correspondence and reports to disseminate technical matters as an expert in assigned program areas

Represent the organization in activities to establish standards concerning network, IA requirements, protocols, system documentation, and program testing to be used throughout the DoD.

As a team leader,  provides time management for completion of work, tasks, and guidance on critical administrative matters increasing 

Independently leads projects, interprets policies, procedures and regulations in conformance with mission objectives, integrates and coordinates the work of other as necessary, and resolves most conflicts that arise

Manages McAfee anti-virus software, Microsoft Operating System security patches, digital signature files to assure maximum security of personal identifiable information (PII) data
