Identify and explain an additional ethical issue that your colleague didn't consider. Identify and explain an additional positive or negative social implication your colleague didn't consider. Answer the question your colleague posed in their post, drawing on information from the Learning Resources to substantiate your points. The primary ethical issue that I have identified in this scenario is with the procedure of gene modification and what could follow as a result of the process becoming more common. As Garrett and Hough have commented on in our readings, once able to correct a disease, what is stopping scientists from going beyond repairing genes, and onto modifying imperfections and intelligence (Garrett & Hough, 2022). One positive social implication to this issue is the possibility of identifying and modifying the genes that produce deadly diseases. Scientists could eradicate diseases that destroy lives and cause those inflicted with these diseases to suffer. Modified genes could improve quality of life for many. One negative social implication to this issue is the potential for misuse of gene modification and widening the gap between those who can afford to create a perfect embryo, and those who can't. This has the potential to create more inequality and potentially more discrimination.
