Develop a composition that helps communicate your message

Assessment - Design Project

Overview:

Assessment requires you to visually conceptualise your project. Your final design will include a minimum of two pages. It does not ask you to build or develop functional interactivity at this point (this forms Assessment 3).

You will design the visual assets and form a solid understanding of how create and prepare the components that will be used to build your project in Assessment 3. You will:

- develop a composition that helps communicate your message as articulated in assignment 1 and write annotations to explain this.

- create images, text, colours and patterns and determine where they will be within the composition.

- determine where links, buttons, rollovers and animated gifs will be located and why

Design your layout

Part 1

Compile the raw visual components (assets) that will make up your design into a pdf document (2 to 3-pages). This includes static elements such as:
- text

- font selection

- images

- button designs

Note: If using imagery, carefully consider if it enhances your idea and be aware of your ability to capture (photography/video) and/or create (digital or hand-drawn illustration) proposed assets.

Part 2

Following the week 5 workshop, explore at least 10 variations of design composition (5 variations of 2 different pages) using a 12-column grid structure. Annotate how each of the layouts aid in representing your concept to your intended audience.

Note: Keep in mind simple interactive techniques and the key message/s that engage the intended audience and include in notations.

Refine your design and develop content

Following feedback from the midpoint Assessment 2, you are to critically analyse your designs and adapt appropriately.

- Choose the best website layouts created above for your final 2-page interactive design and refine.

- Finalise your assets (imagery, font choices, colour and any other static components) and save files in appropriate format and at the correct size to use in Assessment 3.

- Using techniques of interaction, develop animated gifs, rollover button states, sound or any other simple elements that enhance your design to engage the audience.
