Students should start the assignment after the session 4 using their textbook and in-class notes and group activities materials.

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of concepts related to:

• In-depth analyse business processes

• The ability to model a business process with BPMN diagrams

Scenario 1:

Dylan Drugs is a wholesaler who supplies independent chemist located throughout the country with medicines and drugs. The company operates through a sales force, which each salesman being allocated a number of pharmacies, some of whom are existing clients. During the weekly visit the salesman takes orders for the goods that the pharmacy wishes to receive in the next delivery.

At the end of each day the salesman emails the orders through to the sales administration team, who check the orders for completeness (name, delivery address, etc.). Any orders that are incomplete are returned to the salesman, who is responsible for returning the order to the client.

Complete orders are recorded, and the sales administration team then check to see if the client is an existing client. For new clients, the sales administration team needs to retrieve the details of the client using the Australian Business Register - a service provided by the Government. After this step, the orders from the new client will be processed as if existing clients.

For existing clients, the order is passed to the credit control clerk who checks the client's credit worthiness. If the credit status of a potential client is unsatisfactory the salesman is noticed and it is his responsibility to notify the potential client that they have been rejected. If the credit status of a potential client is satisfactory the credit control clerk passes the order to the sales ledger clerk who then prepares a client file. Once the client file is prepared the order is passed to the warehouse so that the goods can be despatched.

Once the warehouse receives the order, a number of the warehouse team picks, or selects, the goods for despatch. When the order is complete the warehouse despatches the goods to the client. Once the goods are despatched, the salesman prepares and sends an invoice to the client.

Develop a BPMN for the described scenario. The actors should be shown using swim lanes.

Scenario 2:

The insurance claims process starts when a customer submits an insurance claim to the Claims Department. Each insurance claim goes through a two-stage evaluation process. The Claims Departments ends the insurance claim to the next available Claims Handler. The role of the Claims Handler is to determine if the customer is duly insured and if the customer is liable for the loss described in the claim. The claim is then assessed in order to determine if the insurance company has to cover this liability and to what extent. If the amount of the claim is greater than AUD$5000, the assessment of the claim must be forwarded to and performed by a Senior Claims Handler. If the claimed amount is less than or equal to AUD$5000, the assessment can be performed by a Claims Handler. When a handler has completed their assessment, they send their assessment back to the Claims Department.

The Claims Department then notifies the customer of the outcome of their claim. If the outcome is positive, the Claims Department informs the customer of the amount they are to be reimbursed. The Claims Department then sends the customer's claim and assessment to the Finance Department for payment. The Finance Department prepares a payment request and sends it to the Accounting Section for issuing an electronic fund transfer. The Finance Department at the same time sends the customer's claim and the assessment to the Records Department. The Records Department stores the claim and the assessment in the company's database system.

If a claim is rejected, the Claims Department notifies the customer and then sends the claim andthe assessment to the Records Department. The Records Department stores the claim and the assessment in the company's database system.

Students are required to:

a. Draw a BPMN model with swim lanes for claims less than or equal to AUD$5000, and

b. Draw a DFD diagram for a claim that is worth AUD$5300.
