Determine the maximum tensile compressive and shear


For purposes of analysis, a segment of the crankshaft in a vehicle is represented as shown in the figure. Two loads P act as shown, one parallel to (-x0) and another parallel to z0; each load P equals 1.0 kN. The crankshaft dimensions are b1= 80 mm, b2= 120 mm, and b3= 40 mm. The diameter of the upper shaft is d = 20 mm.

(a) Determine the maximum tensile: compressive, and shear stresses at point A, which is located on the surface of the upper shaft at the z0 axis.

(b) Determine the maximum tensile, compressive, and shear stresses at point B, which is located on the surface of the shaft at the y0 axis.
