Problem:
The object of this assignment is to engage a child in conversation about their work and then to evaluate the work sample to try and determine the developmental stage of the child. You can get several items from this sample: Need Assignment Help?
1.?A conversation with dialogue which provides you information about pronunciation, sentence structure and ability to understand and respond. It can also give you insight into the child's emotional development, interests and concerns.
2. Developmental information on the child. The work sample you can give you information about the child's fine motor development, cognitive development, emotional development and interests and concerns.
Both of these can add greatly to your overall assessment of a child
The assignment is in three phases:
1.?Obtain a work sample from a child ages 2-8. A sample may be art work in the form of a picture or drawing or you may discuss a construction piece. If the piece is three dimensional you must then have a photograph or drawing to accompany your report as a sample. A work sample is something you would put in a child's portfolio to 'show' development.
2.?Talk to the child about their work. "Tell me about your ...." and record what they tell you. Try to be as open-ended in your questions as possible to draw the best description from the child. The dialogue between you and the child should be written up as accurately as possible. You may want to experiment with a tape recorder. However, if you do record the conversation it must be transcribed.
3.?Analyze both the actual piece and the child's comments to determine what developmental stage they are in. Comment on all domains that you see in the sample and hear in the conversation. How well they describe their work? Is there a connection that you can see between the work and the description?
